Our client is a prominent law firm with a robust Compliance Department. They are seeking a Senior Compliance Officer with extensive legal compliance and regulatory knowledge to support the firm's compliance needs. This new role is vital for the future-proofing of the firm's Compliance Department, with the potential for expanded responsibilities as the department evolves.
The Role
- Compliance Advice and Guidance: Support the Head of Risk and Compliance in delivering key compliance processes. Lead compliance initiatives, resolve issues, and identify areas for improvement in compliance and risk management, focusing on conflicts, sanctions, and AML.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain effective relationships both virtually and in person across multiple office locations, ensuring the Compliance Department's reputation and effectiveness.
- Work Planning: Oversee work planning to ensure compliance and risk management projects are scheduled and delivered on time.
- Compliance Policies: Maintain an up-to-date suite of compliance policies for each jurisdiction and oversee the review and update of all firm policies.
- Compliance Reviews: Assist the Head of Risk and Compliance in reviewing processes across the firm.
- Solution Development: Help develop solutions to compliance and risk issues as they arise.
- Strategic Projects: Support strategic projects led by the Head of Risk and Compliance.
Person Specification
- Compliance or risk qualification is desirable but not essential.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements in England and Wales (E&W) is essential; knowledge of regulatory requirements in Ireland and Dubai is desirable but not essential.
- Proven track record in a general compliance role within an E&W law firm.
- Keen interest in developing compliance, risk management, and regulatory knowledge.
- Commercial awareness with experience providing pragmatic, timely solutions.
- Involvement in decision-making processes, offering clear, balanced support and advice on compliance issues.
- Experience developing effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders, both internally and externally.
- Experience in managing and developing less experienced colleagues.
- Professional, persuasive, and influential with a proactive attitude.
- Well-organised with strong prioritisation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to gain stakeholders' confidence.
- Ability to challenge and hold senior members of staff accountable.
- Collaborative team player who can lead by example.
- Ability to relate the impact of the role to wider firm plans.
